Faith In The Holy Spirit

Successful witnessing is caused by the Holy Spirit through a willing believer. When we witness we can only speak to the ears and minds of lost people. The only one who can speak to their hearts is the Holy Spirit. We must have faith in the Holy Spirit. The more we trust the Holy Spirit to speak through us the more willing we will be to witness and the more fruitful will be our witnessing. He will prompt us to speak the correct scriptures for each individual we witness to. He will use those scriptures through our voices to speak to their hearts. They will not be provided with the correct scriptures from any source other than the Holy Spirit. Faith in Christ saves us and faith in the Holy Spirit makes us witnesses. The more faith we have in Him the better witnesses we will be. We simply do not have the ability to bring conviction to people that the Holy Spirit does. When we permit Him to work through us we cannot fail.

John 14:26: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15:26-27: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

John 16:7-11: Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

John 7:38: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

It is interesting that the scripture does not say out of his mouth shall flow rivers of living water. I believe that at the same time we are witnessing to unbelievers through our mouths the Holy Spirit speaks to them in His way.

I cannot tell you how many times it has happened that someone I have witnessed to has come up with questions and ideas that I have not spoken about and had no intention of speaking about. Someone else MUST have given them those questions and ideas. Someone else must have been speaking over me. Someone else must know better than me what those individuals need to hear. That someone else is the Holy Spirit.

I recently had a chat with a woman. We chatted about where we were born and raised. We chatted about a couple of things like that. It was a friendly sort of conversation. She seemed to be a gracious woman and I thought she might have been a Christian. I then asked her if she went to church anyplace. I asked her if she read the Bible or had an interest in it. She made a couple of comments about the Bible that indicated that she had some knowledge about it. I told her that I wrote Bible studies for a website, gave her a business card with the website address and suggested that the Bible studies might be interesting to her. She told me that she was offended by my trying to proselytize her. I was very surprised by that. I had not told her where I went to church or what I believed. I had not suggested that she went to a wrong church or believed wrong things. I had not invited her to church. I had not told her anything about Christ. I had not quoted the Bible. I had not even told her that I went to church. For all I knew she might have believed exactly the same things that I believe. I now believe that she was reading between the lines of what I said. I believe someone else was speaking between the lines of what I said. I am convinced that someone was the Holy Spirit.

It is probable that some other Christian had planted some seeds with her that were now trying to sprout within her. I recall that before I trusted Christ the Christians who had tried to lead me to Christ angered me. Sometimes they angered me even though they hadn*t tried to lead me to Christ. Sometimes they angered me even though they hadn*t said anything.

Often in witnessing things brought up by the unbeliever that I haven*t mentioned are positive and helpful things. That has happened countless times. When I received Christ there were things that I understood within me that the radio preacher had not come close to in anything he said. Someone was speaking to my heart over and above what the preacher spoke. Someone spoke to me through that preacher and more powerfully than that preacher. That someone was the Holy Spirit. I said yes to the Holy Spirit. Most of the time I can*t even remember the preacher*s name even though he is on nationwide TV and radio. I do remember the scripture he quoted and the central idea of his message. The central idea was that I needed the Lord to change me in a way that I could not change myself. He called it spiritual heart surgery. I asked the Lord to be my heart surgeon. When I received Christ I received a spiritual heart surgeon. He did spiritual surgery on my heart!!

Count on the Holy Spirit and get going!!!
